Muhammad Mian Soomro was born on 19 August 1950 in Karachi. He
belongs to a family that influences the Pakistani politics since 1947.
Ahmad Mian Soomro, his late father was the Deputy Speaker of the West
Pakistan Assembly and also played a key role in the making of the Senate
Committee Systems.
Muhammad Mian Soomro obtained his education from the Forman Christian
Collage. He remain in Pakistan Muslim League Functional from 1985 till
1988, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz from 1988 till 2002 and the Pakistan
Muslim League Quaid from 2002 till date.
He is a qualified banker and is known to have held high posts both
local and international banks. For example he worked in the Bank of
America, MCB Bank, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited and the Federal Bank of
Cooperatives. He was also among the board of governors of Shell Pakistan
Limited.
He was appointed as the Sindh Governor in late May 2000 and was also
given the post of being the Chairman of the Senate in early 2003. He was
appointed caretaker Prime Minister in December 2007 and remain on the
post till 25 March 2008.
Soomro was also assigned the post of the caretaker president on 18
August 2008 after Musharraf resigned. He was succeeded by Asif Ali
Zardari on 9 September 2008.
