Islamabad (Thursday, November 24, 2016) – Former acting Prime Minister of Pakistan Moeenuddin Ahmad Qureshi has died in Washington USA. He will be buries in Mary Land United States of America. He died in the age of 86 Years. He remained acting PM of Pakistan from 18 July 1993 to 19 October 1993. When he came to Pakistan for acting PM, no CNIC and Passport were with him.

Moin A. Qureshi, a Pakistani economist and International Officer, son
of Mohyeddin Ahmad Qureshi and Khursheed Jabin, was born in Lahore,
Pakistan on 26 June 1930. He passed his B.A. (Hons.) from Islamia
College, Lahore, M. A. Economics from Government College, Lahore, and
Ph.D. (Economics) from Indiana University.
He began his career in the Government of Pakistan in 1953 where he
held a series of responsible positions in finance planning. From 1958 to
1970, he served with the International Monetary Fund, both at
headquarters in Washington D.C and in the field, in a variety of Senior
Economic and Operational assignments. During 1974-77, he was Vice
President of IFC. During 1977-1981, he was appointed as Executive Vice
President and then Chief Operating Officer of the International Finance
Corporation (IFC) responsible for managing IFC’s global operations which
involve the financing of private enterprises and investments, including
joint ventures and capital market operations in developing countries.
During 1981-1987, he worked as Senior Vice President, World Bank and
from 1987 to 1991, he was in charge of all World Bank operations. Mr.
Qureshi left the World Bank in 1992 and agreed to serve as Caretaker
Prime Minister of Pakistan for an interim period from July, 18 1993 to
October, 19 1993. At the time of his appointment, Moin A. Qureshi was
totally unknown in Pakistan; it was, however, felt that as he was a
political outsider, he would remain neutral. His Government introduced
comprehensive reforms in economic, social and political fields. His
Government also organized nationwide elections for a new democratically
elected Government. Following the installation of the new Government in
Pakistan in October 1993, he returned to private business. He was
awarded “Hilal-i-Imtiaz” by the President of Pakistan in March 1992.
He is a member of the Boards of Newmont Mining Corporation, the
General Electric Company (GE), the Power Corporation of Canada and the
International Advisory Board of the American International Group (AIG).
He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Planning
Association and a Trustee of the Asia Society.
He is an advisor to several International Institutions and has
chaired a number of International Commissions and Committees dealing
with International and Public Affairs. He recently served as Co-Chairman
(together with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany) of a
Group set up in response to the request of the Secretary General to
examine the future of the United Nations, in the context of the major
changes that have taken place since its founding in 1945. He is
currently Chairman and Managing Partner, Emerging Market Cooperation,
(Washington D.C.) that was established in 1991.
A number of his articles were published in economic journals. His
leisure interests re tennis and collecting antiques. Mr. Qureshi was
married to Lilo Elizabeth Richter and has four children: two sons and
two daughters.
